What is Carisoprodol?

Carisoprodol is a muscle-relaxant that reduces pain and muscle spasms. It is a crystalline powdery drug which is soluble in alcohol and chloroform. It is not entirely soluble in water. This drug is taken to cure muscle pains. It works by stopping the pain that passes from nerves to the brain.

Carisoprodol is mostly given as a painkiller or used for sedation or somnolence. It helps the patient go for long sleep, especially during operation and to make specific muscles get numb during performing certain surgeries.

People use this drug in order to alleviate their muscle pain; most often used for back pains. This drug can be taken directly as available or can be taken mixed with aspirin. There are many precautions that need to be taken while using this drug. So, it is always highly recommended to consult a doctor and get proper prescription of how this medicine is to be used and the number of dosages and for how long.

Many side-effects can occur if the drug is not properly used within its prescribed limits. Doctors always suggest the patient not to drink alcohol while taking this medication. This drug also reduces the physical ability to operate a motorcycle. So, people who drive must be take extra caution when using this drug. It can increase drowsiness in a person and one can get dizzy anytime during the course of the medication. There are also cases where few patients have been impaired with their thinking and reactions after using this drug.

Doctors also suggest not to abruptly stop using Carisoprodol, as this is one of the main reasons to get side-effects and other disabilities. Slow and gradually reducing the dosage is recommended.

However a strong consultation is necessary before or during the usage of Carisoprodol.
